Dino Days of Summer at Liberty Science Center – GIVEAWAY!

20170723_103835

Today we visited the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City thanks to @Jerseymomblog and it was so much fun! If you have kept up with my blog these past few years,  you know its a favorite of ours (see my post on the infinity climber launch!)

Every time I go to the Liberty Science Center it’s like nostalgia for me. I remember when it first opened in 1993, we took a field trip there for my second grade class. Back then it seemed so huge and never ending and now going as an adult it seems much smaller then I remember, but still so much packed into it and off course it’s always changing. I love knowing that my kids see it as I used to when I was younger, a world of amazing science and knowledge.

Today’s agenda was the brand new “Dino Dig” exhibit.  With a huge focus on real replicas of dinosaurs and fossils, families can get in and dig deep for fossils outdoors and see real scale size dinosaur bones.

I found it amazing that they took actual bones and fossils and casted them to create actual detailed replicas of the real things. It’s the closest to being a real paleontologist that you and your child can get without actually being one.  And what’s better than digging up dino-bones and fossils then doing it with a backdrop of NYC behind you?!

The Dino Dig Exhibit will run now through September 4th 2017.

Channel your inner paleontologist by digging fossils in 35 tons of sand at “Jack Horner’s Dino Dig. Meet Mac’s scariest residents and learn about the relationship with dinosaurs and reptiles.  Practice removing fossils from blocks of rocks and touch a creature that’s been around LONGER than a dinosaur,  horseshoe crabs!

Kids wearing dinosaur themed clothing can save $5 on child admission tickets during the Dino days of Summer!

Tickets are $21.75 For adults and $17.75 for children (2-12).  For more information visit LSC.org

I have a family 4 pack of tickets to give away to one lucky winner! You can use them to visit the LSC and enjoy the Dino Dig exhibit,  or one of the upcoming exhibits that will be there the following days;

Prince of Peace – Original Ginger Honey Crystals
This pack of Ginger tea came with 6, yes SIX packs of the tea crystals! I shared them with my coworkers since we are all fans of tea and it was a fun experience trying them.  Be warned,  it is VERY VERY strong of ginger. Not bad,  but I wouldn’t say great.  It was better when i added it to liptpn tea bags than on its own. I hear ginger is amazing for colds though so this is great too have handy.

Black Forest Organic –  Gummy Bears
To be completely honest,  my kids and husband tore through these before o even got to try them,  so I assume they were good 😁. Hey… they’re gummy bears! (but healthier)..

I wasn’t really a fan of how thick this was… similar to a milk consistency. It is protein though,  so i guess it’s gotta have some substance to it.   Maybe I was just caught off guard since I opened and chuffed it though lol… The flavor wasn’t bad and I would try it again if i saw it at the store.

Isn’t this little bottle the cutest? My grandmother always used to warm maple syrup in the microwave for my brother and I when we would sleep over her house. This brought back so many memories and I LOVE everything about it including the bottle.

BetterThanCoffee – Energy Bars
This was another item I brought to work for a snack but wound up sharing it because everyone was so interested.  I actually really liked it although it was bitter from the dark chocolate. I liked the texture and I feel like it did give me a little boost.  Not everyone was a fan,  but i want more!

Beat the heat at the Legoland Discovery Center in Westchester New York

Looking for something to do to get out of the Heat this Summer and keep the kids busy? Why don’t you head on over to Legoland Discovery Center in Westchester New York!

Legos are a family staple… they’ve been around for generations and families enjoy using them together and will absolutely love checking out all of the amazing Lego creations that are all over at the Legoland Discovery Center. They truly are great for the whole family.

Take a look at the last time that I visited the Lego Discovery Center. We had a blast. My boys especially enjoyed the crawl tunnels that they have set up in the middle of all of the other areas. It reminds me of the old discovery zone in a way.

One of our other favorite things that we did during our visit was check out the 4-D show that they had. Every month or so the show rotates to a new one so it’s always a new fun experience for the family. If you’re unsure what 4D is, it is where you can feel, see, and even smell what’s going on in the short 15 minute movie. The great thing is once you’re inside, all of these attractions are included with your visit including the movie.

I do recommend that you eat prior to going to the Legoland Discovery Center because their food options are pretty limited especially for young children that are picky but there are sandwiches and some other options if you would like to eat there or have a snack.

There is a parking deck located only a block away from the Legoland Discovery Center and if I recall it was pretty cheap and for yhe entire day.

Not to mention that the area is great and it’s a great day out for the entire family. There’s an outside mall that you can walk around and window shop or grab an ice cream and just walk down the Main Street of the strip.

The Legoland Discovery Center has given me a family pack of 4 tickets to give away to one lucky winner.

Enter to win now through July 1st, GOOD LUCK!!!

Fright Fest 2016

Let me start off by saying that this is NOT a sponsored post. I have no affiliation with Six Flags and this is just my own experiences that I want to share with you.

First off, before I even start, go get a season pass to six flags! Right now, it’s the best deal I’ve ever seen so I had to scoop them up for my family of 4. But you have to be quick because you MUST ACTIVATE the passes before Oct 31st, just 9 more days, to get the deal.

It’s only $6 a month (auto-pay) per person for minimum of 12 months, for a COMBO GOLD pass that includes the rest of this year free including Fright Fest and Holiday in the park, Free Parking, and Hurricane Harbor for next year. That is only $72 per person for the whole YEAR and a one day ticket is $72 if you were to go just 1 day,so even if you only go one time the entire year (which is not very likely), then it already paid for itself! That’s why I think it is so worth it. They do shows throughout the year, bring a friend free of discounted, and so many other deals.

During the end of the year, starting October, they’re only open Friday’s after 5:30pm and then on Sat and Sun all day. If you go during the weekends, you can spend the whole morning there and enjoy the fall and Halloween decor without and spooks or scares. Once the sun sets though, it’s a whole other story.

So should you bring your young kids to fright fest? I say go for it. My boys had a great time despite the scary zombies roaming around. My 8 year old absolutely LOVED the zombies. I on the other hand tried my best not to make eye contact and used the kids as a shield LOL! I get creeped out with that stuff… It did make it easier having the kids with me because they didn’t bother us as much.1477141950851

My 4 year old didn’t mind the first time we went, I don’t think he noticed the zombies as much. The 2nd time, he was more aware of them and what was going on and he cried for a bit to go home. He kept looking over his shoulder and I felt so bad, but then I had a genius idea! I told him to switch jackets with his brother, and that it was so big on him, it was like a “blanket” and the zombies would think he was just a big blanket. It worked! He started to forget about it eventually and enjoyed himself the rest of the night.

I love carnivals, and theme parks, so of course I love Six Flags Great Adventure. I wish it was a little closer since it’s about an hour drive, but so was Sesame Place which we had a blast this past Summer and went a lot with our season passes there. It’s good to switch it up, so next Summer we’ll have these passes for the theme and water park at great adventure. Did I mention, if you love Pokemon Go, then you will be excited to know that there are many Pokemon hanging out here 🙂

My favorite thing is seeing my boys enjoying themselves on the rides. They have a bunch of rides for young kids and a large area with stands and arcades. They really wound up having a great time despite the initial fear of the zombies.

GET YOUR PASSES SOON! You must go BEFORE 10/31 to activate the pass to get the Combo Deal even if you buy the passes, it will not be combo unless it’s activated before then.

Why I Let My 7 Year Old Buy Our Family’s Food

11178621_10206414653025676_1632440866_nmoney

I like to pat myself on the back for the fact that I have raised some pretty amazing boys this far. For instance, my stepfather took my 7 year old to Toys R’ Us just before his birthday party to pick out a gift. Whatever gift he wanted to get within the allotted amount of money. He strolled up and down the aisles of his favorite toys and picked out 1 item that was only a small fraction of the money he could spend. What did he do next? He saw an Angry Birds video game and knowing his brother loves Angry Birds, he said “I am going to use the rest of my money to get this game, I think my little brother would love it!”. Yes, he spent 2/3 of his money on his 2 year old brother.

With that being said, you probably have a good understanding of the personality of my boy. He’s very loving, giving, and caring. He wants to do right by others and constantly looks to make others happy, especially his family and friends. He received some money and gift cards at his birthday party and said he wanted to save it for something he really wants instead of splurging at the toy store. So when we went to the Burger King drive through a couple nights later to get family some quick dinner, he said  “Mom, can I buy the food for you guys?”. Initially I said “What?!, No, I don’t want you using your money to buy our food, I buy the dinner”. But when he said “Mom, I really want to use my money so you don’t have to use yours” I just melted and said “OK, I’ll let you buy it if you really want to, thank you”. I made sure he understood that his $50 would now turn to $30.50 after spending the $19.50 to buy our food and that he wouldn’t get that money back, but he said he understood and that is what he wanted to do with his money. He said he had the toys he wanted, and that he would save the rest for something else he wanted in the future.

Of course I let him “buy” our food, and his money really stayed put, well it did come out of his spending money, but it went into his savings. If figured I want to start him off right. And that he was right. He should be able to do what he wants with his money as long as he’s making the right choices. And boy was he making the right choices all on his own. Spending his only money on his family, I couldn’t ask for more. From then on, any time he said “Mom, do I have enough money to get this, I want to buy it” I let him buy it with his own money. He is learning and preparing for the future. I want him to always be the kind person that he is today and do for others as much as he can. Me always doing for him, and not allowing him to have that type of gratitude because I do it because I want to, not because I have to, is not what I want. I am proud that he made this decision for me. My 7 year old will continue to buy his own food, or his families food as much as he wants until his money is gone (into his savings of course) and then if he wants to buy us more, he’ll need to pick up some paid chores.

food

I know I’ll make wrong decisions in life, and I know I’ll make parenting mistakes, but this is something I know I did right. And I am proud of my boys and the people they’re growing to be. Both of them.
