The essential oils they sent I actually have never used. They are;

Cajeput (Melaleuca Cajuputi) – Use for cuts and scrapes, therapeutic massage, decongestant.

Cajeput_Essential_Oil_10ml-600x400.jpg

A slightly medicinal smelling oil that carries a fruity camphor aroma with hyacinth and herbaceous undertones. Properties include antimicrobial, astringent, analgesic, stimulant, and anti-inflammatory, and as a natural bug repellent.

Cajeput has great value in skin care and wound cleansing, stimulates the mind and assists with getting back into balance. Its antiseptic and expectorant properties make it excellent for respiratory tract infections such as colds, laryngitis, bronchitis and it may be helpful for asthma, as well as nasal and sinus congestion.

Pain relieving properties make it useful in massage for neuralgia, headaches, muscle stiffness and general aches and pains. The oil is also reputed to have insect repellent qualities and can be applied to sooth insect bites.

Orange (Citrus Cinensis) – Use as room deodorizer, decongestant, stress relief and stimulation.

Orange_Essential_Oil_10ml-600x400

A refreshing sweet citrus aroma that delivers a multitude of uses.

A widely used room deodorizer with uplifting effects. Can also help relieve the symptoms of colds and other respiratory ailments.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) – known to be a potent and powerful aid for digestive health.

Its strong licorice flavor and aroma is gained from the steam distillation from the crushed seeds of the plant

Clove (Eugenia Caryophyllus) – Use as massage oil for stress relief and aphrodisiac, pain relief, skin care.

Clove_Essential_Oil_10ml

A sweet warm scent and very intense flavor. Clove oil is known to provide potent antiseptic and anti-inflammatory benefits and is a preservative when used in all-natural products.

Clove can be applied topically to irritated skin, combined with Coconut or Argan oil to create an aromatherapy massage oil, or mixed in other products to enhance their benefits. Clove oil can be used with a diffuser to sooth respiratory illnesses, relieve stress and treat headaches.

All of their essential oil’s are 10ml.  You can buy them in sets of 5 for $34.99 or single bottles at $14.99 AND they’re currently running a special, if you buy 5, you get a FREE Diffuser! How is that for getting a bargain?

Next up is the Yoga Mat Spray ($9.99 MSRP) comes in a 100ml bottle. There are 3 varieties to choose from but I was sent to Lavender which I love. It is such a relaxing fragrance. Although I am not a “yogi” I like to spray it around the house creating a calming environment.

yoga_mat_spray_category

“The missing link to achieve the perfect end to your practice. With just a few simple sprays you can sterilize your mat and bring on inner peace”

I also tested out the “Supa Dupa” Moon Flower incense and whoa are they nice and big! I hate getting incense and they burn so quick and done. These are huge! They burn very slow and are very aromatic. I was impressed by how long they were as well. They come in a really nice box too!

incense_all_regular-768x512.jpg

I got the 12 long sticks, which is $12.99 but they have a smaller option where you can get 6 for $6.99 as well.

Utama Spice’s natural incense sticks are all created using locally sourced spices and herbs. Lovingly hand rolled in Bali the incense is dipped in pure essential oil making these incense one of the most lovely smelling natural dupa sticks

“This long burning incense is a blend of flowers, barks, herbs, oils, nuts and spices using no synthetic or endangered plants. Wrapped in recycled paper. Handmade with Fair Trade and Tri Hita Karana principles.”

Lastly and most important, the Sonoma Yi Diffuser. This is the one I am GIVING AWAY to one of you lucky readers! You can pick up some oils for it in the Utama store or use any you currently have (although I have to say, that you SHOULD definitely check out some from Utima as they are high quality and so many to choose from).

Not only is it a Luxury ultrasonic diffuser, it is also an air humidifier and attractive LED lamp.

Elegant, clean design a perfect complement for the home, studio, spa, or salon.

Digital wellbeing. The new normal health checkup you must do on yourself and your children.

Being a blogger, I have some close contacts with youtube, and have been enlightened by their ability to say, “hey, we love you, but you need a break from us!”

YouTube is introducing new tools that help people better understand their tech usage, focus on what matter most and disconnect when needed.  Starting today, anyone can find all of these new tools in one place, alongside more info about how much time they’re actually spending on YouTube.

You can access this easily on your youtube account by clicking to home.  There is a new “time watched” button.

Phew.

I thought I watched much more than this, but I guess it’s been a busy week and I haven’t been as engulfed in my phone.

20180828_193849.jpg

It’s almost scary to hit the button and see the reality in black and white.

I suggest everyone takes a moment to check this new feature out and especially check in on your children’s youtube binging and see if you need to adjust anything to fit your family needs better.

This is better explained in a blog release from Youtube themselves.

Relax Be Healthy Organic Essential Oils and Waters

Today is June 2nd, the unofficial start of Summer in my mind.  It immediately makes me feel at ease knowing school is coming to an end for my kids and long play days in the yard await. Health has been on my mind as well since of course everyone wants to be in their best shape for the beach and water parks.

Lately I’ve been on sort of a health kick.. walking a mike a day on my lunch break at work and eating more consciously. I’ve been getting a little into essential oils and using my oil diffuser while i take a shower or a relaxing bath with a bath fizz and some eucalyptus scented Epsom salt.

It helps me to wind down from the day and just clear my mind. My kids have also used the eucalyptus to help with allergies and sinus issues, I just prop the diffuser in their room and they’re good to go after a couple hours relaxing with it filling the room with aromas.

With that being said, I want to give my opinion on a lesser known mom and pop store in my home town of Staten Island (I love saying I was born on an island because it’s true haha).

20170601_204147.jpg

Www.Relaxbehealthy.com sent me a few items to check out and i have to say I’m really loving them. I haven’t had much experience with essential oil water sprays but these probably take the cake of i had to guess from what i see with their essential oils.

All of their products are organic and hand made in their shop with imported products from around the world.  The items in reviewing are made from raw materials from Bulgaria and are the real deal.

20170602_072647

First up to the plate is the Lavender Water. It’s a 4oz misting spray and is $10.99. It has a scent of lavender just a bit lighter then the oil,  and is a super soft delicate mist.

You can use the water spray as deodorant for your body,  or even spray on furniture and around the home to deodorize.

There are many other different uses for lavender you can experiment with.

20170602_072702

Now this Rose Water is my absolute favorite.  They captured such am amazing scent I could wear it as a body must and probably will! Also $10.99 at their store, I wish you could smell it through this post,  but if you do order from them, I suggest you put this in your cart.

The First Ever Human Milk Bank in NY

Yesterday, Sept 21 2016 marked the opening of the first ever human milk bank in NY. This is such a wonderful thing! What an amazing way to help save infant’s in need. Read below for the press release.

20160922_150014.png

Via nymilkbank.org

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, NY – September 21, 2016 – The nonprofit New York Milk Bank (NYMB) today announced its grand opening as the first and only comprehensive, community-based milk bank dedicated to serving New York State. The opening ceremony was held at the NYMB’s new facility in Westchester County, NY, where it will process donated breast milk and coordinate distribution of pasteurized donor human milk (PDHM) to feed babies in need, particularly premature and sick infants.

“We are thrilled to be able to help address the critical need for accessible, affordable donor breast milk in New York and beyond,” said Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, Founder and Executive Director of the NYMB, and a board-certified lactation consultant and family nurse practitioner. “Research shows human milk provides the best nutrition for babies and protects against numerous life-threatening infections, especially in vulnerable preterm infants. Establishing The New York Milk Bank has been a true labor of love for our team, and we are committed to improving the health and survival of babies in need by providing safe PDHM when their own mother’s milk is not available.”

Approximately one in 10 babies is born prematurely. These infants often face significant health challenges and are at particular risk of developing the serious intestinal disease necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which may be fatal.Feeding premature babies exclusively with human breast milk can dramatically reduce the risk, so it is crucial that hospitals have a dependable, affordable supply of PDHM.

New York State will need an estimated 200,000 ounces of PDHM per year just to meet the needs of the smallest premature infants. Until the opening of NYMB, milk donated by mothers in New York has been sent to milk banks in other states for processing and distribution.

“My daughter was born prematurely at 24 weeks and needed donor milk for months after her birth. I saw firsthand how beneficial breast milk can be for babies struggling to survive, and know how scary it is, as a parent, not to have milk readily available,” said Theresa McCaffrey, of Hastings-On-Hudson, whose daughter is now two years old. “When Ceci was born we had to ship milk in from Massachusetts because there wasn’t a milk bank in New York State. The New York Milk Bank is providing an important service to our community, and I’m happy that New York families have such a strong advocate when it comes to the health of our babies.”

Already, more than 20 hospitals in New York are using donor milk. The NYMB is working with others to ensure donor milk is available to all infants in need across the state. Mothers who have been screened by the NYMB can donate milk at one of the 17 depots in New York accepting donations – from Buffalo to New York City – with more opening in the coming months. Mothers may also ship their frozen milk directly to the NYMB.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity of mothers who donate their extra breast milk to help save the lives of premature, low birth weight and sick infants,” said Roseanne Motti, Manager of the NYMB. “They are part of a centuries-old tradition of donating milk to help infants in need, and provide an essential benefit that has been validated time and again by the medical community.”

The NYMB is licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and accredited by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) to ensure safety. To learn more about the NYMB or find out how you can become a donor or a recipient of breast milk, visitwww.NYMilkBank.org.

About The New York Milk Bank

The New York Milk Bank, Inc. (NYMB) is the first and only comprehensive, community-based donor human milk bank in New York State, based in Westchester County, NY. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit milk bank and a member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). The NYMB is committed to improving the health and survival of infants in need by providing safe pasteurized donor human milk when their own mother’s milk is not available in sufficient quantities. It was started by a volunteer group of lactation experts including physicians, nurses, and lactation professionals and is licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). To learn more, visit www.NYMilkBank.org.

About Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM)

Research shows that human milk provides the best nutrition for all babies and is especially critical for premature infants, who face significant health challenges. When a mother’s own milk is unavailable, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that preterm infants receive pasteurized donor human milk (PDHM). The Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) was founded in 1985 to establish standards for North American milk banks, and there are currently 25 HMBANA banks in North America with five more in development. Donors to HMBANA-accredited milk banks undergo a thorough screening process, including verbal and written questionnaires, a blood test for HIV and other infectious diseases, and medical clearance from the donor’s and baby’s health providers. Donated milk is then pasteurized to destroy bacteria and viruses and tested to ensure safety. Donor human milk is species-specific, and, once appropriately pasteurized, is safe for vulnerable infants.

Drowning Does Not Look Like Drowning

Drowning Does Not Look Like Drowning

Help needed. Drowning man's hand in sea or ocean.

Help needed. Drowning man’s hand in sea or ocean.

Their signs were motionless and void of any struggling or screaming. They just simply passed out.
Via itsTactical regarding instinctive drowning responses

We think we know it all too well. The common signs of someone drowning, flailing around, screaming for help. The movies portray it as such a stressful situation for all involved, including onlookers cheering on lifeguards who are rushing to save victims. But what if I told you drowning is actually silent in most cases? That there is absolutely no muscle movement involved, and the victim will usually pass out underwater before anyone even realizes they’re under…

The sad fact is that the leading cause of death or severe injury in children ages 1-4 years old is drowning. And more then half of these drownings take place in plain site, while adults are present.

It scares me to death knowing that my almost 4 year old thinks he can “swim” and has said it many times. He thinks because I allow him to float in a life jacket at public aquatic centers that he can just dive in on his own. I’ve had the discussion with him so many times that he can never swim without mommy but I am still unsure if it is hitting home. I am sure I’m not alone. We want to empower our children to learn to swim, but at the same time, we need to make sure they know the dangers of the water and when it is safe.

My now 8 year old son had taken swim lessons when he was 5 and 6 years old because he had a slight fear of water. He overcame his fear of the water, but he didn’t catch on to the technique as well as I’d hoped. He’s on the short side, and not able to touch the bottom of standard 3ft deep pools without his nose still hitting the water, so it is still difficult for him.I let him swim with friends in a family members pool as long as he is wearing his tube so that he doesn’t go under. It is still clear in my mind that even with that tube securely around his waist, I took my eye off of him for just a moment, turned back around, and another child in the pool was screaming that he went under. My heart dropped and everything went silent. I couldn’t see my son in the above ground pool he was just swimming in with the other children, and there was a boat tube flipped upside down. Without thinking, I jumped down the flight of stairs and over the side of the 4ft pool in my sun dress.Heart pounding, I pulled my son up to get air. Luckily, there was another child in there who was aware my son had gone under, and I was able to act quickly. But I cannot stop thinking,  “what if he wasn’t there to yell to me”?

I didn’t hear my son go under the water. He didn’t flail, or come up screaming. In fact, he was trapped under a raft that was floating in the pool and his safety tube had flipped him upside down. I can’t stop thinking about what could have happened and what I have unfortunately seen happen to children of others. Luckily by son was okay. Shaken up, but he was okay and I think he learned a water safety lesson that day.

I just want for all others out there to realize that drowning is not always like the movies. That these water safety devices like tubes, rafts, and swimmies are never to replace adult supervision and to be aware of the REAL signs of drowning and what to do it if occurs. Make sure any other children going into a pool or body of water with others understand it’s their duty to alert others of anything in the pool such as another child going under.

Be aware, drowning doesn’t look like drowning.
