If that stupid Hatchimals commercial comes on one more time, I am going to loose my shit…It keeps drilling into my sons head that he needs to have the stupid thing, and as a parent knowing Santa isn’t going to be able to bring it for him this year, breaks my heart.
Such a simple sales tactic as old as time. Supply and Demand. No store has had them in stock for the last couple of weeks and I’ve been kicking myself for not grabbing one earlier. I am an early shopper, but I also shop frugally. I was waiting to be able to use my Toy’s R Us coupon so I didn’t have to spend $60 on that dumb little thing that I know he’ll play with once and toss it to the side. Who the hell knew it was going to be the new Furby?
A few weeks ago after my son saw a You Tube video and mentioned the name, I looked it up on Amazon and saw the price. $59.99. Add to cart was highlighted in yellow, and all I had to do is click it. Ehh,I’ll wait I said… clicking off of the site… It’ll go on sale I said….
A week later, I strolled unknowing, with my $25 off of $100 coupon in hand into the aisle of Toy’s R US that looked most likely to house the brightly colored weird looking egg they call”hatchimals”. I saw a sign hanging on an empty shelf “Hatchimals on Sale $49.99“. Quirky and oblivious to why the shelf was empty, I found an employee and asked if they were somewhere else in the store due to the promotion, like a promotional area. “They’re sold out and I’m not sure when we’ll get them back in” came out of the sales persons mouth and right then and there I knew… It was a fucking Furby. This was going to be my hell for the next month and a half. A quest for an item that is worth 1/3 of the price listed, and now selling on eBay for upwards of $200.
It’s fine I told myself. He doesn’t need to have everything he has on his list. He doesn’t need everything he wants for Christmas. UNTIL the commercial is on after every single episode of Spongebob telling him subliminally that this is the best toy ever and he needs one.
We’ll see. My quest has just begun. I will not forget how easy it once would’ve been to click “add to cart” and I WILL find one of these stupid unicorn items they call “Hatchimals”.
Until then, STOP IT WITH THAT DAMN COMMERCIAL for something that right now, does not exist to purchase!
Every year, there seem to be more and more toys promoted, and each one is more and more expensive. It’s hard for me to think about piling on more toys into the already endless seeming piles of toys my boys already have. With that being said, Santa is still coming to town, and the boys are expecting to get toys…and electronics. So what are my top picks this 2016 season?
Let’s start with stocking stuffers. What is a stocking stuffer to me? I would say 80% of the stocking contents is candy, keychains, chapsticks, and in my family, there has usually been a scratch-off or 2 in there for fun.
This year, add a video game that the family can enjoy, like Just Dance 2017 that was just released this month. It is tons of fun for everyone and the fun keeps on coming with online songs to unlock, and battles against other players. My boys are so excited to get their Just Dance game for the Wii U every year!
The other family fun item that you may want to drop into your kids stocking this year is KidzBop 33.Yes, there are 33 of these fun little cd’s now, and they do not stop there! You can also add in KidzBop Holiday CD which we have had on repeat since November 1st! I love KidzBop because it ties in the music I like, with songs my kids learn to love, and then when the radio is on, we all find ourselves singing either way.
Movies are great to throw in there too. Some new great movies out are Finding Dory, The Jungle Book, and Zootopia. Check out my Disney Movie Club review to check out if it’s something that might work for your family. It would be great to be able to wrap up the classics as well this year.
Throwing in a stuffed animal on top to hang out always gives the final touch to our stockings. This year, for my boys it’s all about Five Nights at Freddy’s and Pokemon so I am sure they’ll find a home in stockings this year.
Now for under the tree..
Everyone knows the hardest things to find this year are Hatchimals and the new NES Classic Console. Unfortunately, I think majority of kids will not be waking up to these this Christmas morning, and my kids are probably among that group. It’s frustrating not being able to get things for your kids that they want, but remember, there are things they do not yet know they want, but will love it when they get it.
Two totally different price points, but equally face brightening on Christmas morning, these are the 2 that my boys will be excited to get this Christmas..
Samsung Galaxy Tablet – An inexpensive, great alternative to an apple Ipad. I know I am an Android person, and my kids are already playing games on my phone so the switch to their own tablet should be an easy one. At only $200 for a 10″ screen, it’s much more affordable then the $800+ price point of the Ipad.
Pie Face Showdown – How many of you had a blast with Hasbro’s Pie Face this year? Such a simple game and so much fun. The awesome thing is, the fun doesn’t stop there. Most kids are drooling at the commercial for Pie Face Showdown this season, and it’s only$19.99 at most stores. Toys R Us has a deal that you can get a free Pie Face T-shirt if you purchase $30+ of Hasbro items.
A company that flies under the radar that I think deserves some eyes on them is educational insights. If you have a kid of any gender, any age, there is something for them. The “Build your own Helicopter” is so perfect for preschool aged kids. It lets kids use an almost real power tool, with no worry of them getting hurt. The bright colors leave them wanting to play with it over and over. My son got this a month ago and has still touched it every day since then at one point or another. Once he’s done with it, I am thinking about giving it to his preschool classroom because I know it’ll get a lot of attention an help fuel those little brains.
Another great item from educational insights worth looking into is the game “Ready-Set-Woof“. It is so simple that preschoolers can play it without needing to use instructions, but at the same time, it is hours of fun for older kids. My 8 year old said he didn’t want to play it since it was a baby game, but when I convinced him to try it out when his friends were over, they played it for at least an hour with loud laughs and fun competition.
If you want to be the best gift giver this year, I suggest you go on and pick anything from their site. They’re such cool, unique toys that are actually still educational although the kids will never notice!
Getting back into the video game world, the new ones out that my older son wants is Mario Color Splash for the Wii U and The new Pokemon Sun and Moon games for 3DS. These are probably going to be at the top of most kids lists this year. Since we probably will not be able to score an NES Classic, we still need some of that Mario in our lives.
Sonic merchandise is coming back in with a boom too.I love seeing my old past time joys come back to life within my children.
Speaking of bringing the past back, kids this year will love anything from Trolls, including build a bear which has 3 different Trolls able to be made with love this season. We went and saw the movie, and had to go build the characters right after at the mall.
Those are just the items that are sticking out to me this year. What are your kids most hoping to see under the tree this year?
Blogger Bash 2016 kicked off this this last week, Just 13th & 14th. What exactly is Blogger Bash? Basically just what it sounds like. An event where bloggers an vloggers. new and old, come together to see the new technology and products that brands have to offer. This is packed into 2 fun filled days, literally PACKED days with an Agenda filling pages not just 1 page.
As you may remember, I posted from last year, and we had a blast there! Last year it was at one of the NYC Piers, and it was in a large area inside. This year it was on a huge Yacht!
Being on the Yacht in NYC on the Hudson brought something special… besides motion sickness lol! It was beautiful to be able to navigate the levels of the ship (there were 4 if you include the top deck!) Each level was themed out each day, and day 1 was Sweet Suite.
This is one even I cannot miss! Having young boys, and with Christmas less then 6 months away, I need to know the latest and greatest coming out. Funny to say, I actually enjoy it myself, playing with the toys and learning about the latest technology. Did you know they have 3D drawing tools for children? Me neither until sweet suite. Of course now I’m on a mission to add these to the list of toys Santa will be bringing this year so that I can play with it too LOL!
My sister and I got there a couple hours after it started, but we were pleasantly surprised that everything was still in full swing. It was much simpler then I thought getting there, we took the Train from NJ, and were able to walk from Penn Station to the Pier 81 Yacht in just a half our. We got a great workout too and ahem… were able to play Pokemon since it’s all the craze (hint, you HAVE to check out all of the Pokestops in Time Square!)
After Sweet Suite, we went back home, and were ready to get some sleep before making the trip all over again the next day. Day 2 we were in for a real treat! Each level, once again was themed out. There were time slots in which the rooms were switched, and they included Kate & Mim Mim hosted breakfast, complete with character setup and behind the scenes information. We didn’t make the breakfast, but it seemed fantastic!
There was Baby Palooza set up, which I am sad to have missed also, but since I don’t have any infants, I wasn’t in a rush to make it there. It looked like it was super brand packed this year thought with brands likes 4Moms at the top of the list. I opted to get right into talking to the brands since that’s the biggest bang for my buck. Having all of these brands in the same space, just tables apart was the icing on the cake (did I mention talking to them while I literally ate cake? hint hint, Sprinkles cupcakes were one of the brands and OMG that Red Velvet, I’m Drooling now). My favorite brands that I got to chat with were Kohler, did you know that they have a toilet that basically runs itself? No touch, not nothing… Not even wiping if you don’t want to lol. Coming from a Home Depot background, I thought the new innovative technology they have is just awesome. The price point is not unfortunatly… There was Little Bites, Entemanns, Picture Keepers, Sprinkles Cupcakes, of course Hasbro – YES this was a favorite with the new Pie Face Dual coming out this year! There were brands nothing to do with toys, just brands brands brands! It was so overwhelming that I couldn’t get to visit every stand, 3 levels of brands there had to be over 500! Taking cards and giving cards, making brand connections and friendships with PR’s.
Peanuts hosted the lunch like they did last year. They have a brand new cartoon series on Cartoon Network keeping Snoopy and the gang relevant. They gave such cute SWAG bags that included Snoopy figurines that my 4 year old went nuts for when I got home. The lunch was amazing, Salmon, Chicken Marsala, an amazing sides. Mimosas on deck, literally!
To end things before I had to leave, Snooki and Jwow did an appearance and interview and I had front row seats. I’ve always watched them since the Jersey shore days (no judgement please!) an it was awesome to see them in person. Snooki is much smaller then I imagined!
If you have the chance to get a Blogger Bash 2017 ticket, my advice.. DO IT!
It’s finally here! This is the most exciting time of year for me. I love shopping, and you don’t get any better deals then the holiday season. Funny enough, I am about 85% done with my shopping for Christmas for my kids. I still have some family members to get for, and I know there will be some great deals coming so I purposely saved the other 15% for this month. How far along are you on your Holiday shopping? Let me know in the comments below!
I have a giveaway on some of these amazing items, so read all the way through to enter!
Keep in mind, my list is based off of my boys that are ages 7 and 3 1/2 years old.
10. Lego Duplo – Lego did a great job releasing these new age legos. They are chunky enough so mommy and daddy don’t step on them (as much) and little hands can grab and play with ease. They also fit on standard Lego tables and bases. My favorite thing about Lego Duplo is that the guides are so simple for my little ones to follow along to build the themes. There are always great deals on these sets online, so keep an eye out!
9. Pie Face Game – By now, I am sure you’ve seen the adorable video of the little boy playing the new Pie Face Game with his grandfather. I think it was from another country, but they have now brought it to the U.S! They actually use the you tube video as a clip in the commercial which is so cute. This is a game that went viral, and is now going universal! I picked one up online, but we haven’t opened it yet. I am saving it for Christmas to open but I cannot wait. I can envision countless hours of family fun that even my 3 year old will enjoy.
8. Tamagochi – Yes, Tomagochi’s are BACK for 2015! You can find them on Amazon. I am not sure if they are the same one’s from when I was younger, but hey, any little digital pet that you can carry around in your pocket and pass on to a family member to watch while you’re busy is good in my book! Boy or Girl, this will keep them occupied, I promise!
7. Disney/Pixar Movies – My boys have seen tons of Disney movies in their lives, but this year we have not gotten to go to the movies to check out many of the new ones, like Inside Out or Minions. I personally have been itching to watch them, but have held back hehe! I am planning to add at least one of them to our Christmas Eve tradition box to watch on Christmas Eve. They also make great additional stocking-stuffers. There is a great referral deal going on for 5 Blu-Ray movies for $1. See my full review of the Disney Movie Club by clicking the name.
6. Girl Scout Cookie Easy Bake Oven – There are so many things I can say about this one. I have taste tested the cookies from this magical appliance and it is true. They make girl scout cookies. All, year, round. So although this is a gift for your little one, it’s OK if it’s our secret that it’s really for you. Let me know if you’ve tried it yet.
5. Uncle Milton Star Wars Light Saber Crystal Growing Kit– This is something fun for kids to learn how things grow. It is especially great that it is Star Wars theme. With the brand new movie coming out this Holiday season, I foresee this being a big hit for all of the new little star wars fans. It’s great because not only is it a fun learning experience, but after the crystals are grown and dried, it is a great nightlight for their room and can glow red or blue. It does take a little patience because it isn’t something that has instant gratification, it grows over a period of 7 days and then has to dry for 1. Check out the review of this I did with my boys recently by clicking the name above..
4. Magic Moves Rainbow Jam –
There is one toy that hasn’t gotten a lot of the spotlight that I think is great for young children, toddlers especially. The Magic Moves Rainbow Jam. My 3 year old and my 7 year old had so much fun playing with this Educational Insights toy. The toy itself is simple. You turn it on, and it tells you the colors of items within the book. The most fun part about it, is the kids ran all over the house checking out the color of everything including themselves and the dog! It was amazing seeing them run around together with the biggest smiles on their faces. They took it outside afterwards and continued doing the same, running around, pushing the toy to an item, and then laughing at the result. The toy has 2 different options as well, one will sing songs about colors and one will tell you about specific colors. Also by educational insights, there is a Geo Safari Jungle Crew Lab set. This is really cool as well because it has a book that outlines different science projects the children can safely create with parental assistance. I think my boys enjoyed this as we did the “Lava lamp” experiment, but there were a lot that were too involved at the moment we did not try. I plan to open the book up again soon to test some more out with them. Maybe I’ll get some cheap googles and lab coats too!
3. Plasma Car – This is such a cool toy for kids of any age! My 3 year old struggles to push his bike forward using the peddles on his tricycle, but he has mastered the Plasma car. They use their hands and feet to steer and push the Plasma Car to wherever they want to go. It is so simple, yet fun for hours for all of the kids because it is so different then what they’re used to. We plan to take ours to the park soon to see how fast they can go in it since we’ve only used it in the driveway. They also have a toy called “Kick Flipper” which is a nifty little toy that kids can learn and do skateboarding tricks without the risk of falling from skateboard wheels. Check it out by clicking the name!
2. Just Dance 2016 Wii U – This game is really great for the entire family. Sure there are a lot of new age songs, but it’s unlimited fun. Not only can you barrel through stages as the older versions allow, but you can also verse other players via the game pad camera! How cool is that/ Make and create a video of yourself dancing away and getting the crown, and share it with out of town family or friends to verse them, or just pick a random partner to verse. There are some songs I wish were on this, like the popular Whip & Naye Naye, but who knows, maybe they’ll have an update with new popular songs song – Ahem.. hint, hint to Ubisoft! They also have Just Dance Disney 2 which is great for younger children an my 3 year old enjoys learning new moves.
Mario Maker for Wii U – They released this game just a bit too early in my opinion. The hype has died down a bit, and it isn’t on top of everyone’s mind to a to the Christmas list. If your child or significant other has a Wii U and has yet to get the new Mario Maker game, GET IT! This game will bring back memories from your childhood dreams, You can make and create almost every version of Mario, back to #1 in the 80’s. As a child, I’d always imagine what it would be like to create a Mario level, and this is everything I ever thought it would be. Enough about me, my 7 year old has this game and LOVES it. MY husband an my 3 year old love it as well.
I didn’t add this in my top 10 round up, but another great idea for a gift for your child or a friends child is a subscription to Bookroo. I did a review of this a while back, and it is a fun way to extend presents year round. There is a special code you can use for a discount via my original post. You can also unsubscribe at any time. Click here to join now! http://bit.ly/1NrCdmz
OK, so for the giveaway…. Drumroll . . . . . .

I have an Angry Birds balloon that has been floating throughout my house for over a week now. I have thought about knifing it, and getting it over with because this damn thing refuses to give up. If I didn’t pay $9 for it, I probably would’ve told my son the bird flew away to find the others, but instead I stare up at it blankly thinking “Why did I pay $9 for this?”. That is until my 3 year old asks me to leap 5 feet into the air and grab it with my fingertips so that he can give it a big hug and run around holding it. It’s at that moment that I remember why I don’t mind having a hovering bird in my living room and occasionally getting sucked into the kitchen fan.
It’s my house. It’s a mess. Filled with toys, and small little parts that you laugh at people in the movies for stepping on and screaming in the loudest pitch as if it were the worst pain in the world. We all know that pain. That Lego on the kitchen floor in between your pinky toe pain. That “Oh my God what am I currently stepping in that squishy” dreadful thought. And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hand prints on mirrors, and hand prints on walls. Toys in the kitchen. Speaking of which, a giant train track occupied my entire kitchen floor for two days straight. My parents and husband had conversations with me in the kitchen while effortlessly stepping in between plastic train tracks and navigating it like a minecraft level while going to and from the refrigerator.
To some, this may be insane. To me, it is my home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Sure, I can spend my 40 hours a week at work, and then the time at home spent cleaning and vigorously scrubbing the floor and picking up toys. But why? For who? For it to get messy again within the hour and my whole time wasted when I could’ve been having fun playing with my children and relaxing with my husband?
There are more clothes then any person should have in their home ever, but I somehow managed to get them all in my home,in just 1 room. Clothes get thrown all over, put into piles and climbed on like it’s Mount Everest. To pick it up, or not pick it up…fold and organize, or act like it’s not there.. that is the question.
Yes, I clean. Let’s get one thing straight… it’s messy, not dirty. There is a big difference.
I was once told that one day I would miss my messy home. To enjoy it now while my boys are little and still have imaginations. While they are innocent and their only care is what toy they’re going to play with next.
That one day, my husband and I will be in an empty home, and wish we heard the screams of our boys and the padders of little feet running back and forth. We’ll miss stepping on play-doh, and cleaning up random toys from in the bathroom. I know I will and I get sad even thinking about how fast that time will come. I mean, look how fast it’s gone already. Why waste it trying to keep a perfectly clean home. What’s the point?
Everyone should have at least one messy room if you have children. A room for when the time comes, you’ll clean it and start giving away the toys that your little one has already grown out of.
Yes. My house is messy. I have a large Mylar balloon currently staring me down from up above. And I don’t care.
I love my messy home and will cherish it for as long as my children will allow me to.
