I have to start off by saying that I am not a big bug spray fan. I’ve tried a few different ones, and was left less then impressed. I hate the smell of them and the oily residue they leave all over. I feel like i’m rubbing a flamable substance all over me an no matter what I do, the smell lingers. I assume the smell of the stuff is what keeps the bugs at bay, but I almost rather be eaten alive by bugs then suffer through the headache that is left after the smell.
Not only do I hate it for myself, but I refuse to put it on my children. The though of them getting that disgusting stuff in their eyes an mouth, well, I don’t want to risk that.
Most of you nixed out bug repellent all together because majority of them contained Deet. I have tried many since the knowledge of deet and how bad it can be for you. I’ve even paid $50 for a few small bottles of one that contained lemongrass and had great reviews to work against the bugs and leave out the deet. The problem is that it smelled like Marijuana! I didn’t want to have my kids or myself walk around smelling like that, so it sits in the graveyard of bug sprays amoungst the others.
Another good alternative is the SSS spray you can buy from Avon. The problem is, it works, but not as good as you’d like. It repels mosquito’s, but it doesn’t protect against ticks which to me, are so scary and I am always checking my kids for ticks.
I was so happy to have the chance to work with Guardian an try out their insect repellents. I am so relieved that I actually LOVE it because you know I speak my mind! I think I finally found the one that works for me an my family. It’s inexpensive, and it smells like an outdoor adventure to me! If that makes any sense. Best of all, you guessed it… no deet!
I haven’t tried it out in a heavily wooded area yet, so I am not sure how well it would work in that area, but we did go to a local lake up in the mountain area yesterday that is a breeding grounds for mosquito’s being that it’s standing water and next to a wooded area. I used the 4 hour spray.
We were able to have a good time without being bothered by any bugs and we didn’t smell like chemicals. No, it doesn’t say it on the label, so I am not positive, but it seems fairly water resistant to me. I am not sure how it would hold up if you were submersed in water for an extended amount of time, but with splashes of water it was fine.
The other big question, being that it is plant based, does it attract bees? Well, I am not 100% sure on this one, but the fragrance is light on the 4 hour spray an it doesn’t smell to fruity or flowery so I don’t know if they’d bother you. Again, It’s hard to explain the scent because to me it just smells like Summer outside. The scent is a bit heavier on the 8 hour spray so it may attract them, but it’s still not as bothersome as the other brands scents.

Check out the Video of our visit to Michigan for Spring Break via the 411 Mommas;
My family and I took a vacation to Michigan to visit family this past week. I was lucky enough to hook up with DriveSTI via the 411 Mommas while there and get to test out the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander for the week. Last time I reviewed the 2015 Outlander Sport, so I was excited to try the standard edition because it had 3rd row seating.
The 3rd row seating was probably my favorite feature of this vehicle for this trip. It enabled all of us to travel together in one car rather then taking multiple and following each other. And we sure traveled & shopped a lot!
While I had the vehicle, we visited the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum which was really cool! I have a giveaway going on for 4 passes to this museum if you’re local to Michigan or plan to visit before the year is up (they expire Dec 2015).. Just check out the post below this one.
We also went shopping at the 12 Oaks Mall and made some pit stops along the way. I don’t know what it is, but I love going to malls in other states. There’s something just a little bit different seeing the state pride attire at each.
We took a family 6-person trip to Target and boy did we shop. We left with over 6 bags of stuff filled with toys, clothes, and groceries and guess what? Yep, we were able to fit it ALL in the trunk with one of the 3rd row seats pushed down as well as a stroller AND my sister in-law in the far back seat. It made it easy that she was able to hop out of the back of the trunk being that I had a car seat and booster seat and myself in the middle row. I didn’t have to worry about folding the seat down to let her out.
The push to start was another plus, but you already know I fell in love with that feature from my last review for DriveSTI. When you’re a big shopped like me, it’s easy to open the car or trunk with a quick tap instead of fiddling with your keys or in my case, trying to find them in your purse while holding bags and a 2 year old.
This standard model (I had the Cosmic Blue color if you’re wondering) didn’t come with a GPS built it. I thought that was odd being that it is 2015 and all vehicles should come equipped standard with GPS, but I guess it’s still an “upgrade”. It did still feature a 6.1″ touch screen panel to maneuver the audio features and also had the controls built into the steering wheel which I loved.
The temperature in Michigan was still in the upper 50’s, so we needed to use the heated seats quite a bit. I have to say, I miss these the most! It was rainy majority of the time – April showers, so we didn’t get to enjoy the sunroof, which was a bit small in my opinion anyway,
The gas mileage on this was amazing for how big it was, 26 MPG combined, but it’s a 4 cylinder, so the pick up when you press the gas shows it.To me though, gas mileage is a big deal and I rather have the car move just a bit slower then fill it up everyday.
All in all, we enjoyed having this addition to our vacation and it allowed us more time with our family instead of driving to our destinations in different vehicles.
I received this vehicle for review purposes but all views and opinions are 100% my own.
I was so grateful to have the opportunity to be a guest on the 411 Mommas (www.the411mommas.com) and get to review this amazing vehicle!
Check out my in depth review of the car I had for a week, 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport on the411mommas.com! I absolutely loved being a #guest411momma. Head over check out their youtube channel as well for some amazing tips and fun videos!
Overall, we really loved having this SUV as part of our family for the week!
This 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport gets 27 MPG Combined – 24 MPG city/30 MPG highway. I had it for a week and drove about 300 miles city/highway and still had a half tank of gas! I was very pleased with how it balanced out when you drive on highway vs city and there is an”ECO” indicator that I am not sure what it meant, but it did flash from time to time. I assume it’s saying I am driving ECO friendly? LOL!
There is a large panoramic moon roof that my kids adored. My 2 year old especially loved looking at airplanes in the sky while I was driving. It was a useful built in tool to keep him occupied. This would be great in the Summer at night to turn on the heated seats, lay the front seats down, and star gaze out of the moon roof!
It has the best heated seats I have ever seen. They don’t only heat on the seat, but also the lower back area which made the ride home from work that much better!
I didn’t get a chance to use it because I’m not a big blue tooth guru, but it does come with a FUSE hands-free link system built into the 7″ HD touch screen. Also, within the same screen, you can touch a button to turn on the map or to turn on GPS.
The navigation system includes 3D Mapping and free map upgrades yearly.
A funny story about the touch screen/audio, I was a bit confused at first that there wasn’t a slot or section to put a CD. I figured maybe I’m getting old and since it is 2015, people don’t use CD’s anymore… Well, I found a little button and had to push it. To my satisfaction, the screen flipped open, and there it was, the CD slot! They sure thought of it all! There were slots there for updating MAPs and another that looked like a memory card slot – I am not too sure what it is for though.
Something cool I definitely noticed while driving home late at night from work on the highway was the auto-dimming rear view mirror.At first I actually thought I was just seeing things when I noticed bright lights behind me turning this darker greenish hue. For me, this was amazing. I would’ve never even thought something like this existed. I have contacts and my vision at night is very poor. I get halo’s around headlights that shine brightly through the mirror, and this completely fixed that issue for me. I felt very safe driving at night. The amazingly bright LED headlights helped with that too!!!
The keyless entry feature has officially spoiled me. I know it’s 2015, and I am sure a lot of cars are going this route, but wow. It made my shopping trips with my 2 year old much easier. I was able to leave my keys in my purse, and as long as the keys were near the car, I could unlock the car with a button on the door. I’d have to imagine… I say imagine because I only had 1 key for testing purposes and didn’t want to test my luck.. but I’d have to imagine that this would make it nearly impossible to lock your keys in your car. I would think that since they’re in the car, the outside button would allow you to press to unlock. If anyone can confirm this for keyless entry -please comment below!
Either way, it’s still awesome and a luxury you would never know you’re missing out on until you try it for a week! The same for starting and stopping the ignition, completely keyless!
It drove fantastic in the snow in the 4WD option and I am sure the all season tires had much to do with that. The fact that there is an option that is as simple as the push of a button to change from 4WD lock, to 2WD, to 4WD auto is great. On a nice summer day with no need to have 4WD, you can save even more on gas mileage by switching to 2WD but just pushing a button! How about that March snow, huh?!
The only thing I can say I’d improve overall on this vehicle is the trunk space. I know it is a SUV Sport model, so it is smaller and more compact, but all the luxuries of an SUV, but with having car seats always in the vehicle, the fold down trunk space would hardly be used, leaving only a small trunk. It made it hard to fit my stroller with my weekly groceries in the trunk alone.
Here is another “What’s in the box” Influenster addition! It is my Frosty VoxBox I just received from Influenster. I love doing these “What’s in the Box” reviews because I know I am always curious when I see someone post something they received. I am one of those who like to watch unboxing videos and product reviews. I feel like getting a VoxBox is somewhat of an elite team, because it’s very rare that I actually get one. It’s like a flip of a coin. Anyway, I got this one..So here it is!
Packed with goodness. Random goodness. Just the way I like it! Here is a car with the rundown;
It might be hard to see in this picture, but here are the products up close and personal!
#1. McCormick Gourmet All Natural Thyme.
I have to explain… I am SUPER excited to have gotten this. I have a cabinet FULL of seasonings of all types (literally.. I need an organizer of some sort..) There have got to be over 50… Funny enough, I do not… well DID NOT have Thyme in dry form! Crazy right? So this will fit right into my collection! Woohoo #Winning!
#2. Fruit Vines Bites – Strawberry
This is going to go so fast in my house. My husband LOVES Fruit Vines, as does my 6 year old and myself. Not much to say about Fruit Vines except, if you haven’t had them yet, what are you waiting for?!
#3. Celestial Candy Cane Lane Tea Sample & Coupon
I am a morning coffee drinker. I don’t usually have tea in my routine although I know it is good for you, especially in the Winter to warm you up. I think Candy Cane tea is a unique flavor and I am definitely going to be trying this sometime this week and reviewing it on Influensters site. If I like it, I’m excited that the 55 cent off coupon will DOUBLE to $1.10 off at my local grocery store!
#4. EcoTools Styler and Smoother brush
This is a SCORE!!!! This brush retails for $10 in drug stores. It is supposed to help your hair to dry when brushing through it, and also the shape and bristles are supposed to stop extra damage and split ends. I am really looking forward to adding this brush to my hair routine. Currently I have a Conair flat brush, but I feel like I need something new anyway…
#5. Rimmel London Eye Make-up Remover
I wear eye makeup everyday. I am not a big make-up EXCEPT for my mascara and eye liner. Funny enough, I don’t use eye make-up remover ever. I think I have some type somewhere under my bathroom cabinet, but I just don’t ever think to use it. I know this is a great brand, so I may give it a shot but I feel like my full face make-up remover sheets work fine for my eye make-up so far. Anyone ever use this – comment below?
#6. Scandaleyes Black Eye Liner by Rimmel London
If there is one thing I’m known for, it’s eye liner. I LOVE trying all types. I am usually OK with any kind for my lower eyelid as far as pencils go, so I know I will use this. I just hope it’s as good as my Urban Decay 24/7. This is a FULL SIZE by the way. SCORE again! #StillWinning
#7. NYC Lipstick in”Sugar Plum”
I am definitely not a big lipstick wearing person. I love my strawberry chapstick and cannot live without it. I think that contributes to the reason I do not wear lipstick.. My lips feel dehydrated LOL. Since I rarely every wear it, when I do try it on, I feel like my lips look weird, or too flashy regardless of the color. But that doesn’t mean I am not a lipstick hoarder. This color is cute, and it’ll stay captive in my collection until I decide to go through the lipstick phase, or give it away..
#8. Boots No.7 Advanced Serum
Apparently this product is all the rage in the UK. It’s supposed to visibly reduce even fine lines. I feel like they were a little skimpy on the package they gave. I know it says it is $22-$29 for a full size of this. The problem is, it says within 2 weeks to notice the difference, and I doubt I’ll get 2 weeks out of this tiny trial packet. There is a $2 coupon attached, but $2 off $29 not sure I’m all for that being that I’m not sure it’ll even do what it says. I feel like I’ve been fortunate to try a ton of creams, expensive name brand items that all promise extreme results in a short time, and not one of them has delivered fully. I am young, and some laugh when I say it, but I KNOW I have fine lines. Even if they are “Smile” Lines, I have lines, and I don’t want them.. I’ll give this a shot, for as long as it’ll last, and if I do see any results that are worth it I promise to amend this and review it.
That’s all for my Frosty Voxbox this Dec 2014. Some really cool stuff that I am glad to try and review for Influenster on their site.
Did you received this box also? If so, what is your FAVORITE item in it? Comment below!
Also, please let me know if you like these “What’s in the box” blogs so that I keep doing them!
It’s the holidays. Perfect time for this review of I See Me personalized books for children.
I have been wanting to do this review for a long time. If you need something for a Christmas gift, a birthday, a baby shower or congratulatory gift, or even just a special memory from mom and dad, I suggest you check out www.ISeeMe.com.
My son received a personalized book from my late great aunt when he was born in 2008. I was unfamiliar with the company, and was so excited to see his personalized “My very own name” book. Unfortunately, she had misspelled his first name, as there are multiple spellings of it. They had great, no, excellent customer service. She had called to explain the misspelling of the name on her part, and without any issues, they re-sent a new book with the correct spelling and said to keep the other book as well.
I kept the other book for him to play with and see the pictures, he was young and I knew it may get damaged throughout the years. I kept the new book with the correct spelling locked away with my other sentimental stuff. I pulled it out for this review. Of course I had to let my son read it now that he is 6 years old and reading on his own. He was so excited reading it seeing his very own name in this book. Here it is looking brand new!
First, middle, and last name. That is what is in his book. You can choose if you want to omit the middle name, but I think it makes it more unique. It depicts a story starting with the date he was born. Obviously all of this information being is entered by whoever is ordering the book so be sure everything is accurate before submitting your order.
The story reminds me of The Lion King when the animals all come together to watch for the child being born to be held up. All having a part in the circle of life. The animals joyously give their reasons why certain letters should be used in the naming of the child, and that there is something special tied to each of them.
All books are unique and specially created based on the letters of the name and the book that you choose. I’ll get into the other options later on.
Here is some of the content in our book;
They have since added tons of book options. There are princess themed books, as well as some that you get sent to you, have your child draw in them or write the content based on which book you choose, you send it back, and they will create it into an actual story. I am really looking forward to trying one of their newer books for my 3 year old. It is something special they can have when they’re older.
Another option is whether to have it sent in a gift box or not. Mine was in a gift box, and has a cute gold tie on it. I think it adds a little extra to the book, and makes sure it has somewhere safe to stay. There is an additional fee for the gift packaging of $5.95.
When you first go to their website, you’ll be greeted with the option of giving your email address to receive future promotional information about them, as well as a 20% off coupon code to new members – which is awesome!
They have virtual book tours which can definitely be a plus. You can make sure the book is exactly what you want it to be for your unique child.
Here are some of the other examples of book options from their website;
They are growing and are not limited to just books any longer. They offer personalized puzzles, story boards, ornaments, coloring books, placemats, stickers, growth charts, and so much more! They also offer gift certificates which are great as a gift for any occasion.
They are a fairly priced in my opinion. Maybe a little pricey, but definitely worth it for the keepsake. Books run anywhere from $29 – $40 plus shipping depending on the options you choose. Remember, you can get a 20% off code for signing up, which will bring the price down a bit.
If you’ve gotten a product from I See Me, I’d love to hear your experience and what book you chose!
There are so many to choose from it is going to be hard to pick just one!
