The Spring time park challenge

Its a Jersey Thing Blog

I am officially proclaiming “Spring is just around the corner!”

The snow melting, the birds chirping, but still chilly outside. I was thinking about the town that I live in, and how I’d love to check out some more parks and recreational areas we haven’t been to yet with my 2 boys.

That’s when I checked out their local website, and to my surprise, they actually had a list of all of the parks and recreational areas mapped out on an actual map of the town, along with all of the information for each. It includes the type of park and if it includes a playground or not. I was most interested in parks with playgrounds because my 2 year old son is still infatuated with “the park!”

I figured it would give us a “go to” on the days where we have nothing else scheduled. We will hit a…

Why I Let My 7 Year Old Buy Our Family’s Food

Its a Jersey Thing Blog

I like to pat myself on the back for the fact that I have raised some pretty amazing boys this far. For instance, my stepfather took my 7 year old to Toys R’ Us just before his birthday party to pick out a gift. Whatever gift he wanted to get within the allotted amount of money. He strolled up and down the aisles of his favorite toys and picked out 1 item that was only a small fraction of the money he could spend. What did he do next? He saw an Angry Birds video game and knowing his brother loves Angry Birds, he said “I am going to use the rest of my money to get this game, I think my little brother would love it!”. Yes, he spent 2/3 of his money on his 2 year old brother.

With that being said, you probably have a good understanding of…

Superbowl Sunday- Easy Cheddar Cheese Fondue

Its a Jersey Thing Blog

Super Bowl Sunday is TOMORROW so how about a crowd pleaser that is easy to make, yet seems super elegant?

Over my birthday weekend my husband and I visited the Melting Pot for the first time and tried fondue. I knew I’ve always had a love for cheese, but REALLY?! I am IN LOVE with fondue. The act of dipping anything you want into freshly warmed melty cheese is just too good to be able to describe with words. What is even better is that I remade it at home several times since then and I am going to tell you how to do the same.

Now, Here is what I use- feel free to change it to your liking;

  • 8oz Beer – I used O’douls (2 reasons… I was serving it to my children and didn’t know if my fondue pot was hot enough to get the alcohol completely…

Drowning Does Not Look Like Drowning

Drowning Does Not Look Like Drowning

Help needed. Drowning man's hand in sea or ocean. Help needed. Drowning man’s hand in sea or ocean.

Their signs were motionless and void of any struggling or screaming. They just simply passed out.
Via itsTactical regarding instinctive drowning responses

We think we know it all too well. The common signs of someone drowning, flailing around, screaming for help. The movies portray it as such a stressful situation for all involved, including onlookers cheering on lifeguards who are rushing to save victims. But what if I told you drowning is actually silent in most cases? That there is absolutely no muscle movement involved, and the victim will usually pass out underwater before anyone even realizes they’re under…

The sad fact is that the leading cause of death or severe injury in children ages 1-4 years old is drowning. And more then half of these drownings take place in plain site, while adults are…

Back to school GIVEAWAY – Vamousse Lice Treatment & Defense

For my kids, school starts next week. I am so excited to be carting my son off to school and watching him grow this year and make new friends. We have already gotten all of our school supplies, and have been packing his back pack with the misc. items requested by his teacher. As the year goes on, I know he’ll be needing more supplies. I hope that one of them IS NOT Lice Treatment, but the truth is, we got 2 letters from his school last year that kids in his school had head lice and that everyone should be checked in case of accidental contact. I can’t explain how it feels knowing that you HAVE to send your child to school after getting this notice, and just hope that the school keeps kids clean of contracting head lice and larva. Finding out that Lice is the No.2 health problem in children ages 3-11 years old (2nd only to the common cold) has me a bit uneasy. Having a 3 year old at home makes the stakes a little higher, 2 heads to check every night, and 2 kids to worry about. Vamousse make the worry a little less. If your kid has already been infected with the lice or larva, you can use the Lice treatment and the problem will be over in just 15 minutes! If you received the dreaded letter as I have in the past, you can use the Vamousse defense shampoo that will actually help protect against Lice, so there is no more just crossing your fingers when sending them to school after a classroom or school outbreak. Best of all, these items are non-toxic which is the most important thing to me as a parent.

Recently I received a free product – COPPERTONE® CLEARLYSheer from BzzAgent in exchange for my honest feedback. So here is my opinion on this new sunblock they’ve developed. It is GREAT on my sensitive skin areas, and leave no oily residue like other types do. I think its a great product and it comes in 50+ SPF if needed. They have a beach one as well as sunny day. It makes sure that you apply the correct one for your needs!
